So…Why should you hire me?

Now that you have seen my blog, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other various forms of communication I’d like to show you what I’m all about. You are probably wondering why you should hire me or even consider me for a Public Relations job. Well, I have a couple of key qualities that I’d like to share about myself first and foremost. I am a Public Relations major from Middle Tennessee’s College of Mass Communication with a growing interest and experience in marketing and advertising. What are some of my qualifications? Here is a visual example with the help of Wordle…

I am experienced in the marketing field as I have worked as a freelance marketing representative and brand ambassador all throughout college. My love for collaborating with people, advertising, and communications has driven me to public relations where I can release my inner geek and be engaged with a technical crowd aka PR 2.0. I enjoy writing, social media, digital media, media relations, strategic planning, event coordinating/planning, design, and all other aspects of PR. I also enjoy reading up on my favorite blogs  and connecting with industry professionals through twitter and #PRStudChat. I am creative,open-minded, motivated to succeed, and love learning something new every day. I am an organized self-starter who always gets the job done, cares passionately about my work and is a loyal team player. I am exactly the eager and insightful PR professional you need.

Please feel free to take a look at my  Resume’ . I welcome any and all comments and questions!

I was chosen and featured in Sarah Evans, whom is a very reputable PR professional, blog post “15 PR Grads to Hire in 2010”. Take a look into what  my dream job would be like for me 🙂 Enjoy!

Branding Each Other

This past week, I watched a short clip on various product placements and how it affects media, audiences, and brands. Think back to watching a movie, listening to music, walking your dog, or even eating breakfast this morning. Almost everything we do, listen to, and see is hidden product placement. We are being brainwashed with thousands of advertisement ads per day. Take the movie Cast Away for instance; FedEx is featured throughout the entire film and essentially at the end the package gets delivered, despite being on an island for 4 years. How did that change the opinions of FedEx to the audience? I don’t know about you, but it created a positive image for them to me–through a MOVIE! How does it affect you and other target markets? The idea of integrated communications is a great way for people to think about a product, know it, and love it. Marketers today are spending millions of dollars for product placements in movies and films after the tremendous success linked to the dropping of Reese’s Pieces candy to lead an alien out of the woods in the movie ET back in1982.  More and more companies are trying to find more creative and uncluttered ways to expose consumers to products. What are some ways your company, brand or product stands out? Social media has come a long way recently and almost everyone has a Facebook Fan page now. I’d like to see more unique ways of advertising, because in the end its your PR that speaks for the brand. How do YOU brand yourself and stand out from the clutter?

Justice for Animals!

I know this post is different from my other ones, but I felt this issue really needed to be addressed. I recently joined an organization at MTSU called Raiders Against Animal Cruelty. Honestly, I had to join something for an organizational communication class thinking it was just about animals being mistreated. Never did I stop to think that these are the animals that our society, including myself, eats on a daily basis. After learning and seeing THEIR point of views on animals rights and watching videos of investigators about Dairy’s Dark Side, Breeding Misery, animal slaughtering, confinement, and mutilation I am more open to change with my eating habits. The purpose of this post is to let everyone know what really happens out there and how our food is “made”.  Some ways to get involved by helping yourself and the animals is by switching to organic foods, cage free eggs, soy milk, tofu, and others. Just a small step goes a long way and you can save 50 animals per year just by being concious of what goes into your body. MercyForAnimals is a great website to educate yourself and others 🙂 How’s that for environmentally friendly PR?

Simple Words of Wisdom for 2010

Today is the day of a new year, a new beginning, and a new decade. This year will  be prosperous for me, personally, since I will finish up with college and start my dream career job. My goal is to get energized, healthy, and fit again.  Also, I want to increase my networking and experience so that I WILL land my dream job. What are your goals for 2010? As for PR, will you increase your clientelle or social media goals? Or maybe its your campaigns you have been working on.  Much like setting goals for your clients, set them for yourself as well. Whatever your goals may be for this year, think about what you DIDN’T accomplish or what you would change about PR last year, and make it happen! As we all know, setting measurable goals for a client is vital. These must be tied to business and communication objectives, which then leads to a strategy and tactic as part of the PR plan. At times, the objectives sometimes have to be revised  in the middle of the campaign due to competitors or whatever it may be. Much like our own personal goals, we may need to refine them as well. However, at the end of our “campaign” we have become more responsible, better at decision making, and have reached personal growth, achievement, and prioritzation. Cheers to 2010 🙂

Are press releases dying?

As a soon to be PR graduate, the thought of hearing “PR is Dead” is like nails on a chalkboard. Joel Warady, a speaker and well known PR Professional, came to speak to our Promotion Marketing class last week when he mentioned this. However, I must disagree. Yes, social media is taking over and you CAN  post news to anywhere on the web. Yet, press releases are still being used and I believe they will continue to be used for online publications. Journalists often need and appreciate well-written press releases, and PR professionals often need those journalists to print their news. Press releases are used for creditibility as well for many news outlets. What do you think? Can the world of “paper” be transferred to the web and still be utilized?
